Graduates of STC's Mechanical Systems program have a range of career options. They can choose to work at a large company and focus mainly on either HVAC/R or Plumbing assignments while having the skills to assist in another area. Or, graduates can work for smaller operations and be well-versed in both areas. This is particularly valuable in rural areas of the South Dakota and the region.

At Southeast Technical College in the Ed Wood Trade and Industry Center, you will learn from experienced instructors with a wealth of industry expertise. Upon graduation, students will be able to:
- Utilize materials and methods necessary to complete a task to Uniform Plumbing Code standards.
- Properly use plumbing tools and equipment to Uniform Plumbing Code standards.
- Install HVAC/R equipment, controls and parts for safe and efficient operation.
- Handle refrigerants in accordance with section 608 of the Clean Air Act.
- Operate HVAC/R tools and equipment effectively.

The first year of Southeast Tech’s Mechanical System training program includes foundational and hands on-courses in plumbing technology. Students spend the second year learning the ins and outs of the Heating, Ventilation, Cooling and Refrigeration industry.
